Crime-comedy feature debuts in Hollywood ahead of its November streaming release; Peter next directs the animated comedy series Funky P.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Los Angeles-based Sound Supervisor and Re-Recording Mixer Peter Zongting Li has completed his work on the feature film The Pool Boy, which held its premiere on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The screening drew warm applause from a packed house, with audience members singling out the film's immersive sound as a highlight of the night.

The Pool Boy is a two-hour-seventeen-minute feature that blends crime, comedy, romance, and conspiracy. It follows a hardworking young Black man chasing his dreams in Los Angeles who — thanks to being a little too good-looking and a little too much of a gentleman — is pulled into the schemes and self-interest of a politician. The script is playful, the story keeps audiences on their toes, and the cast delivers throughout.

Peter served as Sound Supervisor and Re-Recording Mixer, shaping every layer of the film's soundtrack from design and dialogue to the final mix. "Hearing my own mix in an IMAX room is honestly a dream come true," he said. The film is dense with his sound design, along with playful choices in how music and effects trade rhythm with one another — small details that give the comedy its timing and the conspiracy its tension.

The Pool Boy is produced by Joyce Fitzpatrick, whose steady stewardship carried the film from set to screen. It is directed and written by Brian Shackelford, a remarkably detail-oriented and patient director whose care shows in every frame; his story design carries real depth beneath the fun, layering substance and surprise into a plot that keeps audiences guessing.

The Pool Boy arrives as a paid release on November 8 on Amazon Prime, Google TV, and Apple TV, and streams free beginning December 10 on Tubi, Roku, Peacock, and Plex.

Next, Peter turns his full attention to Funky P, an original animated comedy series he will helm as both director and sound supervisor. He plans to bring to it the same craft he brought to The Pool Boy — the funniest storytelling he can write, the most vivid voice acting he can cast, and the most polished sound design and mixing he can deliver — and to share all of it with the world.
